Hay Memorial Library announces Sea Grant Basin Bin Partner Program

For the month of April, Hay Memorial Library is a proud host of a Great Lakes Ecosystem Education Exchange (GLEEE) Basin Bin, a hands-on resource for teachers and educators to use in teaching about the Great Lakes ecosystem and environment. Filled with models of freshwater fish, including a life size model of a Lake Sturgeon, the bin includes information concerning water pollution and conservation, as well as engaging activities and lesson plan ideas for educators and students of all ages.
Emily Fell, Eastern Great Lakes Watershed Coordinator with the NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation, (shown in the photo) partnered with the library to provide this hands-on educational resource. DEC and NY Sea Grant collaborated to develop and share the GLEEE basin bins across NY’s Great Lakes. Twenty-two Grade 5 students at Sackets Harbor Central School have come to the Hay Memorial Library this month to participate in combined field trip/science lessons with their teacher, Mr. Andrew Oak. The GLEEE Basin Bin is available to teachers and students through April 27. Please contact the library at sahlib@ncls.org for more information or to reserve a viewing and session time at the library.
